Established 2020

A registered foundation with a working philosophy.

Ubuntu Across Boarders was registered as a non-profit company on 12 September 2020. We exist to move resources to where need is, inside South Africa and across its borders, and to prove afterwards that they arrived.

Our mission

To fund practical work across four fronts: food, health care, education and conservation. We partner with communities and aligned organisations, we publish our giving model before every appeal, and we report on every rand after it.

Our vision

A continent where no one is left behind a border of geography, poverty, illness or neglect, and where communities rise together because they are funded to, not preached at.

How we conduct ourselves

Five values, applied literally.

  • UbuntuPeople first in every decision we make.
  • DignitySupport arrives as partnership. Never as charity from above.
  • Community-ledLocal voices set the priorities. We follow them.
  • TransparencyAccounts open, results published, questions answered plainly.
  • StewardshipLand and animals are part of the community we serve.
“Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu.”
A person is a person through other people.
Leadership

Accountable to a name and a face.

Cardinale Matill, Co-Founder and Director of Ubuntu Across Boarders, in the field with mountains behind her

Cardinale Matill

Co-Founder & Director

Cardi co-founded Ubuntu Across Boarders and directs its partnerships and community-based tourism work. She has spent her career in the tourism industry, where she learned that travel earns its keep only when the host community ends up stronger than it started. That standard now governs our appeals: the community sets the terms, and the money follows.

She chairs our current appeal for Red Rocks Initiative for Sustainable Development in Rwanda, an organisation she has worked with directly on their cultural festival platform. She answers our WhatsApp line personally.

Governance

Registered, reported, reachable.

Registered and in good standing

Non-profit company 2020/721556/08, registered with the CIPC on 12 September 2020. Annual returns filed. Financial year ends in February.

A published giving model

Where we champion a partner, donors pay the partner directly. We state this before an appeal opens, and we do not touch the money.

Disciplined growth

New programmes open only with funding, reporting and a named owner in place. Registered office: Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

Serve with us

We add directors, team members and volunteers as the work grows, and we publish them here. If you want to serve, message Cardi on WhatsApp and tell us what you can give.
